Coming up with Niche Ideas to Start Your Online Business

Published by Shob on

You love the idea of starting a blog or a website. But you’re not sure how to do that or what to write about. Or maybe you do have an idea but don’t know if it will work or no.

If you have these doubts, don’t worry you are not alone. Choosing a niche is one of the hardest part of building your website or blog. Because let’s face it, when you start something new there is always a lot to take in and a lot of things need to be done. And if you’re like me you really look at every angle so that when you do launch your site it has the best opportunity to succeed.

Finding your niche and then finding niche market keywords isn’t much different. You might have a lot of ideas bouncing around your head Or you might be struggling to come up with one. No matter what is blocking you, I’ll help you in finding a niche for your site. You will learn to ask the 3 questions that you need to ask yourself in order to choose a niche.

Why do you need a blog/website niche?

Let’s start at the beginning, why does all this even matter? The purpose of a website or blog is to share your knowledge with the world and help them. So why can’t you just share your knowledge/ideas as and when they come to you. So, why do you have to pick a single niche?

But the issue with this is – Your audience isn’t guaranteed to be interested in all the topics that your love. So unless you make the topic of the website into something that can actually help people, it’s difficult to build an audience.

On the other hand, if you stick to one topic you can guarantee that the people coming to your site because of one post will have a high chance of being interested in all your other website content too!

Start Brainstorming A Niche

So you need to find a niche, where does it come from?

Now you just need to brainstorm at this point and validate your ideas which we will discuss later on.

For now, don’t worry about the feasibility and just come up with a list of topics that you like and you might want to write on.

Some ways to come up with ideas is:

  • What are you good at? Football, Cooking, Writing or at video games.
  • Think about the things that you do on a daily basis and see if anything pops up.
  • Magazine articles
  • Blogs/ posts that you read.
  • Amazon, eBay and other shopping sites – Look for the popular products, categories.

Don’t worry, if you are stuck I have added a training video at the end that will further help you.

Time To Validate Your List of Ideas

Hopefully, by now you have a list of at least a few ideas of what you want to write about. Now onto validating those ideas to find the best topic for you.

Finding a perfect niche is a balance between 3 factors: –

  • How passionate you are about it – Why? Because if you pick a topic that you’re passionate about with products that you can sell to make money but no one else is interested in it, you’re never going to build an audience.
  • How passionate are the other people about this topic – Why? Because if you choose something a lot of people like but you’re not interested in it, you will struggle to write posts on the topic.
  • Whether or not you can make money from the topic – Why? Cause you go with a topic you love and also it has a huge audience but no money making opportunities then you might become popular but you won’t earn anything.

So choose a niche that gets a 100% for all the above three criteria. Honestly answer the below questions:

1. Will I love writing about this after a year from now?

This is one of the big questions. The internet is filled with blog posts from people. There are blogs where people start strong but after some time there is a drop-off. And it’s one post a month and it slows down even more. And soon, there will be a year’s gap and I’m sure you must have read posts like this on the internet. This is proof in itself that it’s difficult to consistently write about one topic.

So before you finalize your niche, you need to do some thinking as to whether or no you think you’ll be happy writing after the excitement of starting a site has passed, a year has passed and after you’ve written 50 + posts.

2. Are there people who want to read about your topic?

If you have made it through the first question, you know that there are at least a few people out there who you can help with sharing your knowledge. Now’s it’s time to find out if there are more people who would be interested in your site. The best way to find this out is to search for your niche on (A keyword research tool) it will surely help you do a deep analysis and understand what niche works for you better.

3. Can I earn from this niche?

If until now you were able to answer all the questions, you should now know, whether the niche is something that you can stick with and if other people are just as passionate and interested as you are about the topic. Let’s now find out if you can earn from it. So let’s do some more research.

See how other people in your niche make money – This should always be your first step, go through a few websites from your niche and see if they have displayed banner ads or some kind of ads on their site, Sell their own information and write about certain products with links where people can buy.

Look for popular products on Amazon – Amazon is a gold mine for ideas. Basically you want to see if there are products on Amazon that will interest your readers. If you find products that sell well on Amazon you can either put up ads on your website or write posts promoting the products.

Check for Big affiliate programs – Affiliate marketing is a partnership where you get a commission for referring people to products. Amazon is one of the most popular marketing sites but you can also find other sites within your niche that can provide you with a great income. You can search on Google for ‘Niche name + affiliate program’

Check if there is a way to make your own product – This requires a lot of work but it will pay off well if it’s done right. So, for this you need to create your own digital product, it can be an eBook or an online training course. If you can add value by either of these ways this can be a great way to monetize a niche.

As promised below is a training video on finding your niche. It’s super awesome and helpful.
